Monopoly Scavenger Hunt This Saturday – Open To Public

ZSpotlight.com and TriSports have teamed for another wonderful, unique event for groups and friends Saturday, May 22nd.

WHEN: Saturday May 22, 2010 – 12p start. Hunt plus post-hunt party! (your registration fee includes 2 free pints/psn and light appetizers at the party!)

WHAT: A wacky text messaging Scavenger Hunt with a Monopoly Theme that takes teams of 4 people through 8 Downtown Raleigh districts, visting bars, restaunts, and various points of interest to find clues, answer challenges and demonstrate your team’s ability to Monopolize Downtown Raleigh.

WHERE: Glenwood South, Warehouse, Depot, Fayetteville St, and 4 more Downtown Raleigh Districts.

DETAILS:: Join us Saturday May 22nd for an incredible scavenger hunt where the clues are delivered and responded to via text messaging. You’ll travel thru 8 Downtown Raleigh districts and collect the “Property Deed” cards for 22 properties, 4 railroads, and 2 utilities. You’ll also draw Community Chest and Chance cards as you go, and take care not to land in Jail, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200! .

OBJECT:
The team that collects all 22 Proprty Deed cards, while also finishing with the most money is the winner. Money is won for earning property deed cards, Chance & Community Chest, passing Go, completing team challenges, photo challenges, etc. Money is lost through Chance & Community Chest, incorrect answers, landing on property with houses or hotels on it, etc.

THE PLAY:
Teams gather at the designated starting point where, at 12 noon, teams will receive their first clue via text message. Teams answer clues and proceed to the “property” indicated in the follow-up text message. Upon arrival, teams will have to perform tasks to earn their property deed card. Most stops will require the team to buy (1) beverage per team to complete the challenge and earn the deed card. Earning your property deed cards increases your team’s net worth by the value of that property and also gives you the next clue to solve to get to your next stop. Proceed property to property, earning deed cards by correctly answering clues and completing challenges. When you land on a street corner with a Chance Question Mark or Community Chest painted on it, your team is required to draw a card. Once your team has collected all 22 property cards, made stops at all 4 railroads, Water Works & Electric Company, plus drawn your Chance and Community Chest cards, you’ll receive a text notifying you of the location of our post-hunt wrap party, where each team member will receive 2 FREE pints of beer and we’ll also have light appetizers (full menu will also be available, should you desire something heartier). Teams not completing all the above before the hunt end time will receive text notification that the hunt has ended and where to proceed for the wrap party. Most all teams will finish before the cutoff, but if you lollygag or get thrown in jail too much, you may not make it.

WINNING THE GAME:

First Prize – $700 ($200 cash & $500 in Gift Certificates)
Second Prize – $350 ($150 cash & $200 in Gift Certificates)
Third Prize – $200 ($100 cash & $100 in Gift Certificates)

Consistent Advertising to Your Influencers

Marketing is so much more than perception, and it’s about utilizing a diverse mix of tools and services that guarantee results in as many areas as possible.  It’s about building programs that actually work and growing relationships with companies that truly care about your business success on a weekly basis.

There are so many options out there; it’s sometimes difficult to decide where to invest those limited marketing dollars with the right companies that actually bring you a return on your investment.  Look for those companies that you can see the activity and the results, not only the ones that build it once then visit you only when there’s an invoice due.  There truly are a number of inexpensive programs that you can actually see the benefits on a weekly basis.  The most expensive options are not always the most effective.  There are also many programs out there that offer trade options and percentage of profit programs.  Don’t put your entire budget into one specific media.  These days you need a strong mix of online, print, and on-premise marketing.  One of the largest entertainment guides in NC, www.ZSpotlight.com offers this to local clients.  The ZSpot approach is “How Can We Do Business Together?” vs. “Why Can’t We?”

Brand advertising is so important, but make sure to give viewers a reason to learn more  when they read your ads/daily information online or in print.  Your logo and tagline may be perfect, but try attaching a call to action with all your ads.  Remember, you not only want a viewer to see your business though advertising, you want them to become interested, come visit, and spend money to enjoy what your business offers.

One of the most valuable marketing concepts is targeting your perfect customer, catering and caring for that target, and enticing that perfect customer to return because of the experience they have enjoyed.  There are two steps to accomplishing this goal:  working hard to satisfy this customer when they arrive and also reminding them why they should return in the future.

If you think about how hard you work to take care of this customer when he/she visits with the group they bring along with them, why wouldn’t you want to continuously advertise with the media that is constantly communicating with this perfect customer?  Top customers and influencers are your keys to stabilizing your weekly business.  This refers to your regulars, your heavy hitters, your leaders that always bring three, five, ten people when they arrive.  These are the groups that can make or break your business in an evening.

Focus on advertising and attracting the group influencers that bring the crowds to spend money in your business time and time again.  You have to consistently remind and share your business offerings with your customer base, and not assume they are always thinking of you when they are ready to invest.  This concept is overlooked by so many managers, and it’s critical to gaining the repeat business we are all looking for.  It doesn’t matter if you are an upscale restaurant, a bar, a salon, or a retail clothing store.  Everything in advertising or marketing we do or don’t participate in has an impact on this attraction both positively or negatively.

What does every new repeat customer or even more importantly an influencer mean to you in dollars with every visit?  What does it mean if they don’t hear from you on what you have to offer to bring them back each and every time?  $20?, $50?, $200?, $1000+?

Make sure to continuously market your business to them…your competitors certainly are!

Let’s say you have an single professional that has dinner and cocktails once every week with five of his friends and associates after reading one of your advertisements with a local media.  They spend $400 plus with each visit in your restaurant.   On some occasions this influencer brings 10-20 people out to join socially and this averages out to $800 plus in a single evening.  This means there is  a $400-$800 business opportunity that may be gained or lost by making sure to continue to advertise and communicate with this influencer in the media you scored the customer in first place.  The point is, keep the things that do work in tact, and take care of the influencers that can bring you this valuable business over and over again.

It’s sometimes a challenge to know what media refers these customers, so try and build in any program you can to track this activity – contests, trade, events, and simply just taking note of  what influencers bring along this type of business each time they visit.  Then utilize marketing to communicate and inform them of your offers, special events, and daily service.

Once you stop communicating/advertising to your current and new prospective customer base through advertising, you immediately allow your competitors to begin attracting them away with the marketing programs they have in place.  Be smart, be careful, but make sure you have a diversified mix of inexpensive marketing programs that has some type of guaranteed results built in on a monthly basis.  And above all, if it works, don’t stop doing it, no matter how good business gets!

Crawl for Charity on Halloween

Crawl for Cancer

To View All Local Halloween Events in the Triangle, click here.

The Crawl For Cancer has a unique mission to host events that raise money to help people affected by cancer and other disabilities. Since the creation of the Crawl For Cancer in Kansas City in the Fall of 2001, it has had an impact far beyond anything envisioned when it first started. With the help of all the volunteers, the crawl fundraisers have been able to donate thousands of dollars directly to the people that need it.

On October 17, Raleigh will be hosting a Crawl for Cancer.  Here’s how it works: teams of ten people will travel to five bars, where each team will finish four pitchers of beer before moving on to the next bar. Everyone will end up at Buckhead Saloon for an after-party with live music and beer!

MoJoe’s Burger Joint – A local downtown Raleigh Favorite

If you don’t live in downtown Raleigh off Glenwood Avenue, you may have never heard of this lunch, dinner, and late night local favorite.  MoJoe’s is a simple grill located at the corner of Peace and Glenwood Avenue across from Mellow Mushroom.  It’s a small restaurant, that is known for excellent tasting burgers and is open late night for those customers that are hungry after a night on the town in Raleigh.  MoJoe’s serves all types of alcholic beverages and sports two small patios for outdoor dining.  The staff is young and always friendly.  Offerings include beef, chicken, turkey, and veggie burgers, as well as wing, hotdogs, and a few sandwiches.  Buckets of six domestic beers may be purchased for less than $20 to accompany any of this great tasting food.

The burgers are of course the main draw to this “joint” as the business likes to refer itself to.  The Classic Hall of Fame Burger is the talk of the town.  It’s a massive one-pound Angus beef patty cooked up exactly the way you want it with all the toppings.  If you can eat the whole burger, MoJoe’s will take your picture, put it on their wall, and call you “Daddy!”  It takes a little longer to cook this monster, so make sure to bring some reading material while you wait.  You can upsize any favorite MoJoe’s burger by paying and additional $4.

The late night appeal of this grill is another reason MoJoe’s has thrived over 10 years in Raleigh.  So if you are ever in the mood for great burgers of any type, this grill is open “Lunch, Dinner, and Late-Nite.”

Currently, MoJoe’s does not have a great ZSpotCard offer active.

MoJoe’s Rules:

1: Seat yourself even outside.
2: Help yourself to drink refills or we’ll get’m for you, either way.
3: Remember burgers don’t automatically come w/anything unless it says so on the menu.
4: Remember your staff’s the coolest in town.
5: Dollar burgers after 10pm every night…no take out.
6: Floats are a fabulous alternative to milkshakes. So is beer.

Noir Bar & Lounge Now Open

Noir Bar & Lounge

Nestled in the heart of Glenwood South is a new bar and lounge unlike anything Raleigh has seen yet.  Boasting an open patio and a luxurious inner bar and dance floor, Noir Bar & Lounge offers a sexy Miami vibe, with a mix of European sophistication, and a unique touch of unpretentious glamour.  You’ll want to keep your eye on this place, as it soon will define “hip and sexy” in the Triangle.  Their innovative potions and varied music will certainly attract a smart and diverse clientele, an exciting mingling crowd.

When you enter Noir, you almost feel you are part of a small elite that has discovered a secret and exclusive gem hidden in plain sight of the Glenwood South bar district.  The décor inside is breathtakingly simple, yet intense and mysterious, with glittering chandeliers and candles ablaze.  Dark, rich, and lush colors accent the exposed brick and invitingly plush sofas and chairs, enhancing the air of romance and passion you feel as soon as you enter.  Sexy ethereal house beats play in the background early in the evening and progress into high energy house mixes as the night matures.  In addition to house music Noir caters to dance, hip hop, funk and rock.  Enticed yet?

The owner of Noir brings his experience from South Beach, and hopes to give Raleigh a sexy and mysterious bar with an artistic edge.  The general manager is also an experienced DJ, and his contribution will be in serving up some of the best electronica available.  Sunday nights will showcase his true talents, bringing in great DJs and guiding them as they energize the night.

A few details:  Noir is open Tuesday through Sunday nights.  The patio opens at 8PM, which allows for some great people watching as the night heats up.  There is no cover charge, except during special events, but don’t think that means any slob gets entry.  This place is sexy, and you’ll want to fit in.  The dress code is smart casual, meaning anything from designer t-shirts and jeans to your best club wear is allowed.

Finally, in case you are curious about the name, the owners chose it out of their love for film noir.  Film noir literally means “black film” in French and features themes with an overall dark and shadowy outlook, filmed in black and white.  Most noir stories feature main characters who find themselves embroiled in hopeless situations, fighting against a force that threatens to overtake them. That force is usually a man’s inability to resist the temptation of a beautiful, mysterious, sometimes cruel, and overwhelmingly sensual woman — the femme fatale.   Soon the inner bar will showcase these films, lending an intriguing air to an already intense atmosphere.

If you’re a music lover, if you’re a film lover, if you’re a cocktail lover…honestly, if you’re a lover period, be prepared to fall for Noir.

Noir is located at 425 Glenwood Avenue, between Tucker and North Streets, in Raleigh.
