ABOUT S2 JEANS
http://www.s2jeans.com/
S2 Jeans uses premium 12 weight, 98/2 denim from Cone Mill’s White Oak facility in North Carolina. We love this denim because it retains its shape through several days wear, is close to impossible to rip, and is exceptionally comfortable. Our fit is described as Sexy and Snug by The Examiner LA. We use high quality zippers and rivets and stitch the jeans in a way to keep them from having unnecessary fabric buckling. So why are we doing this? It is our way to support the people of Z’Orange Haiti through the Hope for Haiti Foundation by giving 3% of our proceeds. We went there and we saw how desperately people need work, and soon we will make product there. In the meantime we support building of schools, the clinic, fresh water projects, and soon farming. We want to deliver a tractor to Z’Orange first, and teach them how to use, maintain, and grade roads. Next we will make product. And then continue in any way we can.

Wine 101 and Triangle Heart Walk

heart_walk

What do you do when you have a charity you are passionate about and want to raise money for it?  Basically all you need to be successful is to come up with a creative program your guests will enjoy and find a local company to lend a hand.  If you throw the right event, one everyone can have fun with, the people will come and so will the donations!

Just ask Donna Miller, who recently held a Triangle Heart Walk fundraiser at her favorite store, Wine 101 (link: http://www.wine101nc.com/) in Wake Forest.  Donna, a fitness professional at heart, keeps staying active and healthy at the top of her priority list.  She wants her life to exemplify good health inside and out, and is committed to sharing her knowledge and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with everyone.  Hosting a fundraising event seems intimidating to many, but with her inspired attitude, she knew it could be a piece of cake.

Donna and her husband walked the Triangle Heart Walk (link: http://www.starttriangle.org/) this year on September 27th, their third time doing it, and wanted to do more to raise awareness than just participate in the planned activities and sponsorship fundraising.  They wanted to get others involved, because for them, it isn’t just about the money for the American Heart Association, but also about the cause and getting the message out there.  And what a message: Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer in America!

Acknowledging that “everybody has a great cause”, Donna knew she had to think outside the box if she was going to get people involved and motivated.  She approached Joe O’Keefe of Wine 101, knowing she loves the store for their great customer service, and that Joe is community-minded like her, often hosting events and benefits.  Together they put together an approachable and welcoming evening of free wine-tasting, wine knowledge, and snacks, with a portion of the evening’s sales going into a donation to the American Heart Association.

The Wine 101 – Heart Walk event was a booming success and a win for everyone involved. What a great way to get people together!  Donna brought in a nice crowd which boosted exposure for Wine 101, and more importantly for the Triangle Heart Walk.  Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the event, and the excuse to stock up on their favorite wines for a good cause. After all, they say wine is good for the heart.

If Donna can do it, you can too.  Let her inspire you to be inspired.  There isn’t a foundation out there that would refuse any donation or effort to bring their cause to light, no matter how small. In this case, it really is the thought that counts.

Crawl for Charity on Halloween

Crawl for Cancer

To View All Local Halloween Events in the Triangle, click here.

The Crawl For Cancer has a unique mission to host events that raise money to help people affected by cancer and other disabilities. Since the creation of the Crawl For Cancer in Kansas City in the Fall of 2001, it has had an impact far beyond anything envisioned when it first started. With the help of all the volunteers, the crawl fundraisers have been able to donate thousands of dollars directly to the people that need it.

On October 17, Raleigh will be hosting a Crawl for Cancer.  Here’s how it works: teams of ten people will travel to five bars, where each team will finish four pitchers of beer before moving on to the next bar. Everyone will end up at Buckhead Saloon for an after-party with live music and beer!

Taste of Durham Festival 2009

From Kim Ruskan – Organizer

It took a while but our photo gallery is up for 2009 and hope you will enjoy seeing the pictures as it tells the full story of our journey over 5 years. Look for pictures of you in the galleries. Thank you ZSpotlight.com and all for being part of the unique adverture to serve many communities and hope you fully realize how you all made many people happy with your efforts, talents, support, etc. Pictures prove it. We are open to ideas and feed back to improve to make TOD 2010 the best thus far even with the economic challenges. Thank you for your support! Check it out.

You don’t need to be a celebrity to be photographed by Taste of Durham Paparazzi. Turn the pages of five progressive years of creating a welcoming and fun escape to the good life during burdensome and challenging economic times. There are various galleries of pictures at the Taste of Durham 2009 website that convey the essence of the mission of The Community Chest, Inc. (TCC): Creating positive platforms in hopes to stimulate proactive efforts to invigorate a good vibe, bring people together, nurture respect for diverse cultures, and serve many communities in various ways with a focus on arts and cultural experiences: Happiness triggered by the activities of the good life. Sit back and relive the festival through the pictures and see if they can give a glimpse and reminder of happiness, contentment, a sense of peace and possibly bliss.

Check to see if there are pictures of you, friends and family who are part of our living and growing story. If not, we hope to see you at the next festival. Flip through the fun and spontaneous pictures of Mayor Bill Bell, professional dancers showing their dance moves, and vast community members enjoying the ambiance, choice food sampling from restaurants and caterers, an array of eclectic bands and musicians, international wine and beer tasting, arts and cultural interactive activities, and the “Too Much Fun Zone” activities.

Pictures speak a thousand words and we hope they convey the story and our journey to grow a vision. The Community Chest, Inc. produces festivals and projects with old-fashioned ideals of supporting community in many ways. Beyond the festivities we hope you were inspired to welcome change, embrace cultural diversity, gain awareness of community needs, and participate in creating solutions to enrich lives and we also hope you had a BLAST!   TCC is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that supports community enrichments with innovative and distinctive project-based initiatives which produces the Taste of Durham Festival designed to offer a buffet for the senses called “Festivals within a Festival.”   It is inspired by the diversity of Durham County and serves many communities with deliberate, inclusive, and varied programming.

The 2009 Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic will be held at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Sunday, August 16th.  The Classic is proud to have raised $14 million for cancer research in its fifteen-year history, and this year promises to be very exciting as it makes a fitting return to Raleigh.

You are invited to attend and cover this year’s Classic and related events. I have enclosed a media packet containing information about this year’s event.  As always, we will have a Media Center for your use, and staff to assist you. I would recommend Saturday’s practice round as an opportunity to interview the various celebrities who are playing in The Classic. They are usually more accessible then, and since Saturday is not open to the general public, the course is less crowded. Please check The Classic’s website, www.golfclassic.org for an updated list of scheduled celebrities. Please let me know if we can assist you with interviews and feel free to contact me at (919) 812-1354 if you have any questions.

I look forward to seeing you at the 2009 Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic.

Sincerely,
